Wow! What a weekend with the world of outlaws at Baypark Speedway in Mt Maunganui over the 26, 27, 28 of January.

During the qualifying hot laps on both Thursday & Friday, Ben was not quite running at his usual pace but managed to finish in the top 25 cars out of a total of 58 Spring cars competing. In the heat races Ben was able to reach the 'B' main and had to get in the first four places to make it through to the 'A' main. Unfortunately Ben was only able to get 6th on the Thursday night and then 5th on Friday - but the main night to make it through was Saturday.

With Bens total points over the first two nights, he had managed to secure himself a place in the 'B' main heats and in the feature he had to get in the top four places. Ben drove the race of his life when sitting in 6th place with one lap to go, he drove around the outside of the Mag & Turbo car & Ronb Salter to claim 4th place! This put Ben in to the 'A' main final. This was an incredible drive from Ben and both the crew and the crew, the sponsors and the Ben supporters were over the moon for this 16-year old.

Ben's highlight of the weekend was beating Craig Kunser in two of the heats as Craig was the 'A' main winner at the Knoxville Nationals last August.

Ben started 23rd off the grid for the 'A' main, and a few laps in had managed to work himself up to 14th before a yellow light and a red light were thrown. Once starting again - half way through the 40-lap race, Ben pulled the sprint car to the side as the temperature guage was reading high and Ben didn't want to damage the engine. After checking over the car we discovered that the radiator was heavily blocked with clay which would have caused the overheating.

We were very proud of Bens efforts as there would not be many 16-year olds competing at this level of racing anywhere in the world.
